Group G is somewhat of a glamor group with both Belgium and England at the head of the class. It will be a big shocker if Tunisia or Panama are able to knock either team out of the competition.

Belgium (-130) is ranked third in the world and are in the middle of a golden generation of soccer for this tiny country that had little problem in European qualifying, tying Germany with 43 goals scored. They are strong in every department, including goal, defense, the middle and up front. This is the same core that were also a trendy underdog in World Cup 2014 and Euro 2016 who ended up disappointing. One would hope that adversity has made them stronger.

England (+120) is ranked 13th in the world and had little problems qualifying for this tournament out of a relatively weak draw. Wayne Rooney is out and Harry Kane is the star of the show now for a team that’s managed to shed its age and replace it with a ton of intriguing youth. Their biggest challenge is the weight they carry of a soccer obsessed nation and a string of earlier than expected exits.

Tunisia (+2000) is ranked 14th in the world and are a well-oiled machine that work well together in spite of no big stars to carry the load. They would be a plucky underdog if not for their best scorer Youssef Msakni ruled out for the tournament and several other starters also nursing injuries that may see them miss some or all of the tournament.

Panama (+5000) is ranked 56th in the world and are making their World Cup debuts. There is a youth movement brewing in this country led by Ricardo Avila, Michael Murillo and Miguel Camargo. This appears to be a team building for the future. If they are able to advance over a European power it would likely be the biggest upset of the tournament.

The Picks: This appears to Belgium and England all the way. If looking for an upset pick I’d take a Panama team playing with nothing to lose. That is a major advantage to have in a pressure packed tournament like this one.
