2018 FIFA World Cup Group H Betting Preview, Odds and Free Predictions

It’s time to look at each group and make our predictions for who we think will be advancing in each of them. Odds of advancing out of the group are in parenthesis for each team.

The top two teams in each group advance to the knockout stage.

Group H features four evenly matched teams in Columbia, Poland, Senegal and Japan. Although somewhat overlooked, each has enough skills that the ones that make it out could find themselves in the quarterfinals of beyond.

Colombia (-300) is the favorite to advance and ranked 16th in the world. They had a lacklustre qualifying as they were unable to pick up wins against Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay or Chile. But in James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao they have two strikers who can help them keep pace with just about any squad in the tournament. Their biggest weakness is in the middle, but they are strong at either end. This team had a coming out party in 2014 reaching the quarterfinals and now expectations are much higher that they can at least repeat that success.

Poland (+175) is ranked 10th in the world and went 8-1-1 in qualifying. Robert Lewandowski scored 16 goals for the Poles which was tops in European qualifying. This squad features both experienced vets and up and coming youth and will be trying to build off their quarterfinals appearance in Euro 2016. This is their first World Cup appearance since 2006 and they will be looking to advance out of group play for the first time since 1986.

Senegal (+500) is ranked 28th in the world and went unbeaten in qualifying. This is a team with strengths all across the pitch, especially up front and down the middle and one of the English League’s best player in Sadio Mane. Coach Aliou Cisse hasn’t been able to get the most out of this group yet, but if they reach their ceiling they have a great shot at wearing Cinderella’s slippers.

Japan (+750) is ranked 60th in the world, but in going undefeated in their group, they qualified for the World Cup for the sixth consecutive time. They’ll be relying on all that experience to carry them through, especially after the sacking of coach Vahid Halilhodzic just two months ago. He was replaced with Akira Nishino making his World Cup coaching debut. This team escaped group play in 2002 and 2010.

The Picks: This group is a huge toss-up with so many evenly matched teams, but I think Poland is for real and will advance the farthest. Look for Columbia to fall back to Earth and that opens the door for Senegal to surprise as the second team through.
